If your answer to any of the below questions is YES, then you can’t afford to miss to read this article.

Are you feeling like your life got paused and you are not able to grow in your career?

Are you feeling like you colleagues are getting promoted but not you?

Are you worried about your appraisal and increment?

Are you feeling like your potential is underutilized and you deserve more than what you are getting currently? OR

Are you not happy in your current job even after getting paid well?

Well, in the year 2019 I was also in the same situation and I was having all the above feelings together.

I broke because of not being able to move ahead in any areas of my life. I was stuck in my 9 to 5 job, I was not able to give enough time to my family, my health was at its worst, I was losing my confidence, I started feeling inferior to the others around me, I had started doubting on my own potential, though I had reached my targets given by the company I was not satisfied myself with my performance as I always outperformed throughout my career except in the year 2019.

I had sleepless nights thinking what’s going wrong and what needs to be fixed.

Unfortunately, many people conform to such a life thinking that this is the only way to live the life, they look around and think that everybody is in the same shit and hence I to need to bear with it. But I was not ready to accept this so-called fact as my life. I was not ready to conform.

The opposite of courage in the career world is not cowardness it’s conformity. Many people suffer in their career life not because they don’t have knowledge or not because they don’t have talent but because they conform.

Know Your Why?

Have you ever thought about why you are doing the job that you are doing now?

A large number of people don’t even know why they are doing what they are doing. Out of my curiosity, after I became a CAREER BREAKTHROUGH EXPERT, I just wanted to check how do people respond to the above question I have asked more than 50 strangers while I used to wait for my pick-up van at the SILK BOARD bus stop in Bengaluru.

When did I ask why you are doing the job that you are doing now?

To my surprise out of 20, only 1 person had given the conscious answer. Few tried to change the topic of conversation and few said we are going to the office because everyone does that and everybody needs a job to fulfill their basic needs.

Success in a career is not getting a corner cabin in the office after long years of service, success means working on a predetermined goal.  If you don’t know your destination you would never know how far you have already traveled in your career journey. No matter whether you are a fresher, or in mid-management or in a leadership panel board of the company, if you don’t know YOUR WHY of the job you are doing then you’ll always work to satisfy the WHY of your boss.

As long as you are working for your monthly pay cheque, you’ll feel that you are not growing in your career. You are trading your time for money and nothing else. If you don’t know WHY you are doing that job then you are missing your driving force or motivation to give your best in your job, it indicates that you are just obeying the orders given by your boss, you are just working to feed your family and yourself, you are working hard for those extra perks that you get after achieving your targets.

How some people are in good books of bosses and leaders

Sometimes you might have experienced that in spite of not being as talented as you people around you are getting promoted just because they are in good books of their bosses, but you know what? Being in good books of some leaders is also an art. I am not saying you must obey all of their orders to be in some one’s good books, you can differ with their opinions but still you can add value to their work. Every human being has a different core values and hence they would always want to see the results happening around it.

Let me help you understand this with an example.

If your boss is an ANALYTICAL person then he would be looking for lot of details and documentation, no matter how hard you work or how good results you get for the company if you are not preparing the reports then you can’t be in his good books. Because he likes to see the work on the paper more than in real. If your boss is having LEADERSHIP as his core value then if you expect guidance from him for all the work you do then he would get pissed of with you soon. If your boss values his POWER more than his work then it makes no sense for you to surpass him unless his decisions are not impacting your performance.

So, understanding the core values of your peers and bosses will help you give them what they want from you rather than what they don’t want.
